Wheeler Mission’s 125th Anniversary Celebrations!

Wheeler Mission’s 125th Anniversary Celebrations!

Dear friend,

This month, Wheeler Mission celebrated 125 years of service and ministry!

Thanks to our generous sponsors, we honored the milestone at our Women Helping Women luncheon and Grand Celebration, giving thanks for God’s longstanding favor and goodness to Wheeler Mission.

Were you able to join the 125th festivities? Here are a few of the highlights!

(Left to right: Fanchon Stinger, Fox 59, and Collen Gore, Center for Women & Children, discuss the state of homelessness among women and children in Indianapolis and the urgent need to expand the Center; Allison Melangton, Hulman Motorsports, has stepped up to serve as Building for Change Campaign Chair, and urges the attendees to give; Rick Alvis, President/CEO of Wheeler Mission, presents the present and future of Wheeler Mission.)

(Left to right: Wheeler Mission gathered with 500 women at the Crowne Plaza’s Union Station, the very space where “friendless women” were abandoned, thus the impetus to found Wheeler Mission; At both Women Helping Women and the Grand Celebration, guests enjoyed historical displays outlining Wheeler’s rich history and legacy; William Wheeler surprised guests with an engaging account of his life and the early days of Wheeler Mission!)

Our future.

The road to reach 125 years was paved by remarkable men and women who were united by the Gospel and a commitment to their neighbors. 125 years later, Wheeler Mission is needed more than ever.

In Indianapolis, the number of homeless women and children has grown at an alarming rate. No one in our city can keep up with the demand for beds and services…but we’re changing that.

At our Women Helping Women luncheon and Grand Celebration, we formally launched our “Building for Change” campaign to expand our Center for Women & Children.

Would you like to honor our 125th anniversary?

Here’s a few ways to help!

  1. Give to Building for Change. Help us expand our Center for Women & Children, and more than double our program and shelter capacity for women and children in desperate need.
  2. Join the Mary Wheeler Circle. Incredible things happen when women unite to leverage their means, influence, and ideas. Join this growing movement of women committed to expanding and serving our Center for Women & Children.
  3. Purchase I Know Who Loves Me! Children’s book author, Roxy Morgan, has generously designated all proceeds of her 8th book, I Know Who Loves Me, a beautifully illustrated portrayal of Psalm 23, to go toward our Building for Change campaign! Just in time for Christmas, purchase copies for the special children in your life here.

An unknown future…A faithful God.

As we look to an unknown future, the Bible reminds us of God’s unending faithfulness:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness (Lam. 3:22-23).

Thank you for celebrating with us. Together, let’s boldly step into the next 125 years, providing help, hope, and healing in the name of Christ.

In Him,

Rick Alvis
