Introducing the Mary Wheeler Circle – Women Helping Women

This piece was guest-authored by Becca Mathews, Wheeler Mission’s Director of Women’s Philanthropy.

Dear friend,

I’m enthralled and inspired by Wheeler Mission’s history – it’s truly something special.

One of my favorite bits of Wheeler’s past is the story of how it began. 125 years ago, a woman named Mary Wheeler and her friends founded and operated a refuge for neighboring women in desperate need – a refuge known today as Wheeler Mission.

What a start! Women founded Wheeler Mission in order to help other women.

Our founders had a vision to provide gospel-centered care for women with nowhere else to turn. Their legacy of female philanthropy and service lives on in our newly formed Mary Wheeler Circle, an association for women to help other women.

THE OPPORTUNITY – Mary Wheeler Circle

For women ready to join us in that effort, we’ve just formed the Mary Wheeler Circle, an association for women to come together and use their influence and finances to make a collective impact for women in need.

HOW TO JOIN – Calling all women!

We want YOU to join the Mary Wheeler Circle. Each Circle member makes an annual commitment to:

    • Donate $1,000 annually to Wheeler Mission
    • Volunteer once per month at Wheeler Mission

All funding from Circle members supports Wheeler Mission’s Center for Women & Children in Indianapolis, and Circle members vote each year on how their funds are distributed.

Your volunteer commitment provides consistent help and encouragement to our staff and guests. Volunteer opportunities for Circle members may include: meal service, special events, recreation afternoons, etc. Alternative commitments can be made available to non-local members on a case-by-case basis.

GROW – Learn to lead!

As a valued Circle member, we’ll invite you to participate in exclusive trainings, tours, conversations, and events. Our hope and prayer is that you’ll leverage your influence and what you learn to change the trajectory for homeless women.

LET’S GO!

Ready to get started? I can’t wait to see what the Lord does through the Mary Wheeler Circle, this newly formed group of female change agents. Will you join us? Go here or email me (beccamathews@wheelermission.org) to join the group today!

Laboring together,

Becca Mathews
Director of Women’s Philanthropy

P.S. Not a woman, but still want to help grow this movement? Forward this blog on to a woman you think would benefit from becoming a Mary Wheeler Circle member. Thanks for raising awareness!
