25 May Jacob Found Hope and Recovery
Addiction is a wretched battle that so many Wheeler guests fight. But we know that there is victory and recovery through Christ Jesus. We’re so encouraged by Jacob’s story and think you will be too!
Rock Bottom
Last Spring, Jacob’s drug addiction spiraled out of control. “I woke up on the floor at a buddy’s house . . . I called my mom and told her I needed some help. I was tired of living like this. And one of her friends recommended Wheeler Mission.”
Strength to Overcome
At Wheeler Mission’s Hunt Training Center, Jacob completed the Hebron program – our addiction recovery program for men. There, he gained a community of staff and fellow participants to trust and lean on. “You can look all around; there’s inspiration everywhere,” Jacob shares. “All our stories are a little bit different, but we’re all the same.” Through classes, support groups and church involvement, the program empowered Jacob to overcome his addiction.

A Family Restored
Jacob’s addiction had wreaked havoc on his family relationships. “They probably should have just given up on me a long time ago,” he admits. “I just drove that family into the ground.” But through help from Wheeler, Jacob and his family have had restoration and healing. Through what he learned in the Hebron Program, Jacob was able to re-open communication, take responsibility for his actions, and live in community once again – something he’d hoped for but didn’t expect.
Today, Jacob is in our Equip program, where he’s closely mentored and takes advanced courses in ministry training. Upon program completion, Jacob will receive his Training Certificate in Advanced Theology and Biblical Counseling Certification, thus preparing him for ministry and service.
