Because of YOU…We’re Building for Change!

A Note From Allison Melangton:

Happy New Year!

Have you made a 2019 resolution? I’d love to share a bit about mine. As you may know, Wheeler Mission’s Center for Women & Children is full beyond capacity. Every night, all the beds are full, with an additional 70+ women and children sleeping on cots and mats. There’s not enough room to meet the need.

Indianapolis is in the midst of a crisis, with women and children desperate for safety, shelter, and stability. The Wheeler team already serves thousands each year, but so many more need their help.

So here’s my resolution: I’ve joined hands with Wheeler Mission to make sure they can do and serve more. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Wheeler recently launched “Building for Change,” a $12 million campaign to expand its Center for Women & Children. And it’s my honor and joy to step in and serve as Campaign Chair. When the expansion is complete, the program capacity and shelter beds will more than double.

I’ve made this cause my own and can’t wait to celebrate when we break ground! Every day at Wheeler Mission, lives change, families reunite, and hope is restored. I can only imagine the impact this expanded Center will have.

As we climb closer to our $12 million goal, I’ll keep you regularly updated with our progress.

Thank you for your friendship. I know we’ll do great things together!

Christmas at the Center for Women & Children.

This year, I had the pleasure to attend the annual Christmas Decorating Contest at the Center for Women & Children. The residents worked hard to decorate their rooms and floors in order to spread Christmas cheer. There was even a Polar Express for the kiddos, lots of desserts and snacks, awards, and a time of carol singing – partly lead by yours truly.

It was such a joyful time, and yet another reminder of why the Center is so special…and so needed. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the contest. Head over to Wheeler’s Facebook page to view the rest!
