Because of YOU…we’re serving homeless mothers.

Because of YOU…we’re serving homeless mothers.

A note from Allison Melangton.

Dear friend,

It’s May in Indianapolis! This month is all things Indy 500, where we step up and show our city’s visitors true Hoosier Hospitality: we serve our famous sugar cream pie, cover our yards with checkered flags, run a half marathon, throw a massive parade, clarify that “Carb Day” has nothing to do with pasta…and FINALLY head to the Brickyard—all for “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing!”

May is one of my FAVORITE times of year, not only because of the race, but because spring is blooming and there are signs of renewal everywhere. I am proud to live in this great community and live and work alongside residents who want to keep pushing our city forward.

Yet even with all of the great things our city represents, I can’t forget the challenges in our midst. An estimated 5,000 children (and their families) are homeless every night in Marion County. They are struggling to survive in our great city, and we need to pull together as a community to solve the problem. And I can’t wait to share our progress so far!

CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Support from the Open Hearts Foundation.

Last month, actress and philanthropist Jane Seymour hosted her Open Hearts Foundation Gala at the Lucas Estate in Indianapolis, all in support of our Building for Change Campaign!

We were honored to gather with several hundred guests who generously contributed more than $300,000 towards our capital campaign. Jane Seymour had this to say about the event: “Wheeler Mission desperately needs funds to handle the ever-growing homelessness problems of women and children and that’s why we came here to help! Forrest and Charlotte Lucas, thank you so very much for your hospitality and generosity. Fanchon Stinger, you were a wonderful host!” Katie Lucas, thank you so much for chairing the event with me; your passion and heart for the women and children at Wheeler is inspiring.

THANK YOU to all who attended and gave!

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GOOD: Give in honor of the mothers in YOUR life!

As both a mother and the Building for Change Campaign Chair, Mother’s Day now holds a whole new meaning. The moms who call Wheeler Mission’s Center for Women & Children (CWC) home are working to overcome homelessness, poverty, loss, and incredible heartbreak…all while caring for young children. I’m proud to serve on their behalf, as their courage, determination, and faith astound me.

This Mother’s Day, will you support the moms at CWC? Honor the mothers in your life by giving a special gift towards our expansion campaign.

MEET BRITNEY.

I love meeting women and children served and transformed at the CWC. Watch this short video of Britney and her young son, and hear her story. It’s full of hope, reunification, and so much joy!

Thank you for your compassion and generosity. With your help, we’re making room for thousands more women and children each year.

Working together,
