Thanks to your support William found a community at Wheeler Mission.
For William, life changed unexpectedly. After leaving his job in Louisville, Kentucky, and returning to his hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, he found himself in a world gripped by COVID-19. Job opportunities were scarce, and the future felt uncertain. With nowhere else to turn, his mother guided him to Wheeler Mission—a lifeline he hadn’t known he needed.
“I was at a loss. I had nowhere to go,” William shared. His biggest challenge before coming to the Mission? “Finding a job when I had lost one.” But what he found at Wheeler Mission was more than just a shelter; it was a community that welcomed him with open arms, offering not just a place to stay but genuine support.
At Wheeler Mission, William formed meaningful relationships with staff and fellow residents, many of whom have since found jobs and returned to their lives. These friendships, though transient, have left a lasting impact.
One of the most profound lessons he learned? “I’ve realized that sometimes I’m not able to help myself as much as I thought I could,” he admitted. It was a humbling realization, but one that brought him clarity and a renewed sense of purpose.
“They’ve always been good at helping me when I needed it.”
As William looks ahead, his goals are clear: find a job and a place to live. With a background in maintenance, he hopes to work at an apartment complex or hotel where housing is part of the job—an arrangement that feels almost ideal to him.
“I am thankful to the Mission because they have helped me more than I thought they ever could,” William said, reflecting on his journey. “I have a place to stay and a place to eat when I need it, and they are very good people.”
When asked why others should support Wheeler Mission, William’s answer was simple yet powerful: “They help people a lot more than you can even imagine. They have done it for me, and I’ve seen them do it for countless others.”
William’s story is a testament to the impact Wheeler Mission has on those who walk through its doors. It’s a place of refuge, hope, and transformation—where people find not only the help they need but also the encouragement to rebuild their lives.
Support Wheeler Mission and be part of the change.
