Mary Wheeler Circle

In 1893, Mary Wheeler and a small group of women founded and operated a refuge for neighboring women in desperate need, a refuge known today as Wheeler Mission. Their legacy of female philanthropy and service lives on in the Mary Wheeler Circle, an association for women to help other women.

If you want to make a difference in the lives of other women, you’ve come to the right place!

Service

Members can serve in a variety of ways that are easily tailored to their schedule for any phase of life. There are chances to serve together with other members or serve with family, from home, or even through prayer.

Advocacy

Members have the opportunity to learn about topics relating to the work happening at the Center for Women & Children. Training opportunities throughout the year include subjects like trauma-informed care, grace-based care, and mental health. These are designed to grow understanding of the complexities of poverty and homelessness and increase advocacy.

Grant Process

Members give an annual gift and 100% is allocated for our Mary Wheeler Circle grant fund. The pledges from all members are pooled together and each fall, the Center for Women & Children staff submit grant proposals for MWC members to vote on. We announce the grant recipients at our Night of Celebration, which is a beautiful night of generosity and excitement that bridges the gap between the Mary Wheeler Circle members and front-line staff. (There are two giving levels, $500 or $1,000, that can be paid out over the whole year. We also have scholarships available!)

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent prayer gathering. 🙏

Let’s continue to unite through prayer all year as we walk alongside our neighbors at the Center for Women & Children. ♥

As the weather gets colder, outdoor conditions become unpredictable and increasingly hazardous for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

There are several ways you can help the mission during Winter Contingency at Wheeler including:

❄️ Pray: Pray for our team, our volunteers, and our guests during this time.

❄️ Volunteer: Come serve with us and love your neighbors face-to-face. Additional volunteers are needed during Winter Contingency to serve meals, help with laundry, show hospitality, and much more.

❄️ Give: Wheeler Mission relies on the generosity of our community.

❄️ Donate: Please consider loving and serving neighbors in need by donating much-needed items.
