Rex’s Story

From Brokenness to Hope

Before Wheeler Mission, Rex’s life was defined by brokenness, addiction, and incarceration. Though he had a loving family and a strong support system growing up, everything shifted after a painful divorce. What started as an attempt to cope turned into a life marked by substance use and destructive choices, ultimately leading him further away from the people and purpose he once had.

“The most important thing I’ve learned is that I’m forgiven. There was hole inside me that only God can fill.”

Rex first encountered Wheeler Mission while in the Owen County Jail, where a chaplain invited him to the Hunt Training Camp. At the time, he didn’t plan to stay. Like many men, he saw it as a temporary opportunity—just a way to get what he needed before moving on. But God had a different plan.

Shortly after arriving, Rex faced a pivotal moment. A friend he came with chose to leave, and Rex was left with a decision: follow the same path or try something different. For the first time in his life, he chose to stay—not out of convenience, but out of a desire to change for the people who loved him.

The program challenged him. The structure, accountability, and daily discipline were difficult at first. But over time, something began to shift. Rex realized his struggle wasn’t just addiction—it was something deeper. True healing would require surrender, growth, and a new foundation.

That’s when everything began to change.

“Since coming to Wheeler Mission, I’ve found hope in something other than myself,” Rex shared.

Through his time at the Hunt Training Camp, Rex discovered a relationship with God that reshaped his perspective and his future. He began to experience forgiveness, rebuild broken relationships, and learn how to live with purpose and integrity.

Today, Rex has completed the program and continues serving as a leader, helping other men find the same hope he once thought was out of reach. His relationships with his family have been restored, and he’s stepping into a future marked by stability and purpose.
