Every door leads to lives changed
Most people know Wheeler Mission as a shelter. That is true, and it is only the beginning. This segment, produced by the Empowered with Meg Ryan series, follows what happens after someone walks through the door for the first time.
Since 1893, Wheeler Mission has met people at their hardest moment with a meal, a bed, and someone willing to know their name. That first doorway matters. It is often the first safe place a person has been in a long time.
But it is not where the story ends. Beyond the first doorway is a pathway built for lasting change: case management, addiction recovery support, healthcare connections, employment assistance, education, and a path toward stable housing. Help meets the immediate need. Hope opens the door to residential services. Healing builds the foundation for a life that holds.
Wheeler Mission is more than a shelter. It is a Christ-centered life transformation organization serving men, women, and children across Indianapolis, Bloomington, and the surrounding communities. Every service is offered at no cost to the people we serve. Wheeler Mission is privately funded and receives no government funding, and while our work is Christ-centered, our doors are open to everyone.
The men and women you meet in this segment are not exceptions. They are what happens when a community decides that a person experiencing homelessness deserves more than a place to sleep.
This corporate identity segment is distributing to more than 170 public television stations nationwide beginning September 21, 2026, with carriage running through 2027.
