I know God had a hand in bringing me here
Rodney struggled to find housing that he could afford, and that would accommodate his service dog, Gizmo. He suffered from poor hearing and health issues that limited his job opportunities. He’d gotten into legal trouble in the past and struggled with alcohol abuse, but now he was trying to get back on his feet. But it seemed like every time he would make progress, something would happen… and he’d have to resort back to relying on the hospitality of friends for a place to stay.
“I knew I couldn’t stay with friends forever, but it just seemed too hard to do on my own,” he says. “I was worried about being homeless and sleeping on the streets with Gizmo. I didn’t know how we’d find food to eat.”
Rodney knew he needed help, but it was a challenge to find a facility that would accept Gizmo. However, when his daughter heard about Wheeler Mission and brought Rodney and Gizmo to us, they were both accepted with open arms.
“When I got out of the car at Wheeler, I prayed, ‘God, I hope you’ve got a hand in this… for me and Gizmo.’ He did.”
Once in the safety of our facility, Rodney immediately felt safe. He finally began receiving the support he desperately needed to get his life back on track. He got hearing aids, which enabled him to get a job, and he found a new routine with chores that bring purpose and meaning to his days. He especially enjoys helping with laundry and mopping the floors. Most importantly, Rodney started believing in himself again.
Now, he’s looking forward to getting a job and building the life for himself and Gizmo that he always wanted.
Rodney is grateful for YOU and your incredible generosity. Your prayers and support have helped change his life. “Wheeler Mission is leading me in the direction that I need to go, to get back on my own feet.”
