Ryan and his wife were overjoyed to learn they were expecting a child. But that joy was short-lived when the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Ryan’s wife was especially devastated, and her emotional and mental health suffered. 

Ryan did everything he could to support his wife, but he couldn’t stop her down spiral. Grief clouded her judgment, and she made poor decisions that deepened her pain and ultimately led to the collapse of their marriage. 

Forced to move out of their home, Ryan faced the prospect of experiencing homelessness. He found the address for Wheeler Mission, but it was 14 miles away and he had no transportation. He did the only thing he could think of: start walking. 

Twelve hours later, Ryan arrived at our Shelter for Men. 

“After the miscarriage, I lost my faith. Wheeler helped me get back into God’s Word.” 

Through the support of our staff and other guests, Ryan began to heal from the breakup of his relationship. He reconnected with the Lord and discovered a love for serving others. 

“There are lot of people here who are willing to stand by my side and help me through everything I’ve gone through,” he says.  

Today, Ryan is in our Servant Leadership Training program. He is more prepared than ever to step into whatever plan God has for his future.  

“Before, when things got hard I would back out and think about myself. Wheeler is helping me stay committed to my responsibilities no matter what,” he says. “I’ve also learned leadership skills… to step up and take charge when needed.”  

Because of you, neighbors like Ryan know that God loves them and they are worthy of a new beginning. Thank you for opening the door to hope and healing this summer! “Wheeler Mission gave me encouragement and confidence to pursue what God has put in my heart for my future. Now, I’m in a position to let God lead my life. I have renewed hope.”
