Kenneth and his brother had always been close, so it broke his heart when his brother had him move out. “His wife didn’t like me, so she gave him a choice—her or me,” says Kenneth.

That’s when Kenneth experienced homelessness for the first time. When he arrived at Wheeler Mission, he learned an important lesson that has stuck with him since: “In this place, you’ll get closer to the Lord. You don’t worry about the outside. You worry about fixing yourself.”

Our Christ-centered environment has also made him stronger. “Before I came to Wheeler Mission, I was homeless. Now, I have the Lord with me, and that’s the best thing.”

“This place is a godsend. It’s beautiful. They changed me.” 

Kenneth is grateful for all the services Wheeler Mission provides to help him get back on his feet. “They helped me get food stamps, my Social Security, and full-coverage insurance. They’re helping me get housing. I’ve been blessed,” he says.

He has also formed strong friendships here. “Once we leave, we’re going to stay in touch. If something happens, we’re going to be there for one another.”

Aside from plans to get his own place, Kenneth might open a food truck or work at a kitchen. Most importantly, he wants to be there for his daughter and grandkids.

“I’m thankful to Wheeler Mission because they were here for me. They’re here for all of us.”

Thank you for loving neighbors like Kenneth “as you’ve loved yourself.” Your kindness has reminded him that he is not alone and that a better life is possible! “Wheeler Mission has made me a lot stronger, more caring, and it has shown me that there’s a season for everything.”
