Winter at Wheeler Mission

As the weather gets colder, outdoor conditions become unpredictable and increasingly hazardous for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Both Indianapolis and Bloomington see a surge in the number of men, women, and children seeking shelter.

Meet Kimberly Orbik! 🎉

We're excited to introduce our new Payroll & Benefits Specialist here at Wheeler Mission. With her dedication and expertise, Kim is helping ensure our team members are supported every step of the way.

Her passion for service perfectly aligns with our mission, and we can't wait to see all the great things she’ll accomplish. Let’s give her a warm welcome to the Wheeler family! 🙌
We’re looking for dedicated housekeeping volunteers to help make our facilities feel like home. By participating in daily tasks like laundry, dusting, and sanitizing high-traffic areas, you can help create a clean and safe space that fosters dignity and comfort for our guests.

If you have a group interested in volunteering, reach out! We’d love to find a way to accommodate everyone. Your time and care can make a real difference in our community. 💙

Snow is on the ground and temperatures are LOW at Wheeler Mission.

We are working hard to make sure every person has shelter and warmth during these temperatures. Thank you for your support and care!
“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love”. - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King

In our annual celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, let us all think about our personal contribution to our community.

As Dr. King suggests, be a part of your community. Share the love in your soul. Choose to serve in your family, in your church, in your community, in your place of work.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.” - 1 Peter 4:10 ESV
“Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.” - Jeremiah 33:6

As we gather this Sunday, let us reflect on the promise of hope and healing found in this powerful verse. It reminds us that even amidst our struggles, there is always a pathway to restoration and renewal. God has a plan to heal our hearts and restore our souls, filling us with hope for the future.

Wishing you a blessed Sunday filled with peace and hope. 🕊️
🌟 Monthly Accomplishments at Wheeler Mission! 🌟

This month, we’re thrilled to share that 10 guests are now employed, marking a significant step towards rebuilding lives and fostering independence.

Our partnership with Volumod, a Christ-centered company specializing in manufactured homes, has been incredibly rewarding! They have hired 5 of our guests from the Men's Residential Center. One shining example is Michael M., a Veteran and former business owner, who came to us after being scammed out of his savings. With the support of Wheeler Mission and Volumod, he landed a full-time position as a Wall Associate just a week after starting his job search!

We also cherish our collaboration with Purposeful Design. Currently, 2 guests are engaged in their 6-month Carpentry Apprenticeship and 3 others are in the Metal Apprenticeship program, gaining valuable skills in metalworking and welding. These apprenticeships not only empower our guests but also increase their chances for full-time employment, complete with benefits soon to be added!

We also welcomed Henry H., Willie J., and Roosevelt H. into the Metal Apprenticeship—a testament to their faith and perseverance. After a challenging surgery, Henry was blessed with recovery and an apartment approval right as the apprenticeship opportunity arose. Willie faced obstacles due to his background but remained hopeful, earning his place through dedication. And after years devoted to caring for his daughter, Roosevelt is finally returning to welding—a dream reignited through the grace of God.

We’re honored to witness these transformations and are excited to see what lies ahead for each of our remarkable guests! 🙏💪
Meet Larriel, a resident who rediscovered his path at Wheeler Mission.

Larriel’s journey to recovery is a testament to resilience and courage. After facing personal challenges and feeling lost, Larriel found the support he needed at Wheeler Mission in Bloomington, Indiana. This isn't just a shelter; it's a lifeline that provides stability, essential resources, and unwavering encouragement.

With the help of dedicated staff, Larriel regained focus and is now actively working towards a brighter future—one step at a time. 💪🌟

Curious about Larriel’s full story? Read more via the link in our bio.
The cold months can be especially tough for those experiencing homelessness, and that’s why we need your help! At Wheeler Mission, we are calling on our incredible community to donate coats that will make a real difference in someone’s life.

Check out our new video showing the lifecycle of a coat when it’s donated! From the moment you drop it off to the hands of someone who desperately needs it, your generosity has a ripple effect that fosters warmth and hope.
We need YOUR help to ensure our guests at Wheeler Mission are nourished and cared for! We’re looking for compassionate individuals or groups to purchase, assemble, and deliver sack lunches for our friends in need. These sack lunches not only supplement our hot meals but serve as a vital resource for our Kitchen Staff, allowing them to focus on preparing delicious meals while ensuring no one goes hungry.

This is a wonderful opportunity to give back from the comfort of your home or community space. Gather your family, friends, or coworkers, roll up your sleeves, and join us in this meaningful mission to provide nourishment and support to those who need it most!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11*

On this beautiful Sunday, let's pause and reflect on the promise of hope for the future. No matter where life has taken you, there is always a path forward filled with possibilities and grace. At Wheeler Mission, we strive to be a place of hope and healing, reminding our guests that even in the darkest times, there is light ahead. ✨
